LDR Obtains Approval in China for Their Mobi-C(R) Cervical Artificial Dis

LDR Broadens Their Portfolio Offering in Largest Asian Market

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan 14, 2009 — LDR, a total spine solution company, announced they obtained approval in China to market their second generation Mobi-C(R) cervical artificial disc. This approval strengthens LDR’s position in the growing Asian market through direct entities and confirms LDR’s position as a global spine solution company.

The controlled mobility of the Mobi-C’s mobile insert encourages restoration and respect of the instantaneous axis of rotation for a return to physiological mobility of the inter-vertebral disc and the cervical spine. This innovative design also eliminates the need for invasive vertebral anchorage thus reducing the stresses on the bone-implant interface and facilitating multi-level implantations. The Mobi-C was first introduced in November 2004 and has now been used to treat over 6,000 patients worldwide.

Christophe Lavigne, CEO of LDR observes, “We are proud to introduce our cervical artificial disc into this strategic Asian market. The Mobi-C is a proven solution for cervical disc replacement with a simple, safe and reproducible surgical technique. The capacity of Mobi-C to be used for single or multilevel application is something I am sure that surgeons will appreciate and that positions us well against our competitors. LDR China, through our direct offices in Beijing and Shanghai, is prepared and excited to support the needs of our Chinese surgeon customers.”

Professor Tian Wei, renowned spine surgeon, is chairman of BJ JST hospital, China’s number one site for cervical disc replacement. Prof. Tian has performed over 300 cervical disc replacements and comments, “One of the biggest advantages of the mobile bearing technology for surgeons and patients is that no keels or screws are needed for obtaining primary stability.”

Prof. Tian adds, “The instrumentation is straightforward and easy to use and the implant’s design makes it a good solution for multi-level as well as hybrid interventions.”

LDR works closely with surgeons to develop implantable spine systems and instrumentation that restore optimum stability and mobility to patients and to make spine surgery more reproducible and easier to perform. More information is located at www.ldrholding.com
