Growing Demand Leads NewHope Bariatrics To Expand Kansas City Staff

September 15, 2008

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas, September 15, 2008 — NewHope Bariatrics announced today that C. Thomas Hitchcock, MD, FACS has joined its Kansas City operations, in partnership with Malley Surgical Weight Loss Center.

“The growing demand for outpatient obesity surgery had us searching for another doctor,” said Dr. Stephen Malley, Medical Director of NewHope Bariatrics Surgery Center and President of Malley Surgical Weight Loss Center. “We’re fortunate to have found a surgeon with Dr. Hitchcock’s 25 years of experience treating severe obesity. Dr. Hitchcock will immediately help care for those who are frustrated with dieting and ready for a long-term solution to losing weight and keeping it off. His expertise and talent will be a great asset to our organization.”

“I’ve made a life-long commitment to provide the best treatment options to my patients,” Dr. Hitchcock said. “I believe the ability to offer the LAP-BAND ® System procedure in an outpatient setting offers the opportunity for decreased costs, increased patient satisfaction and improved clinical outcomes.”

“The relationship with NewHope Bariatrics and Malley Surgical Weight Loss Center also supports my vision for a clinical pathway specifically tailored to each patient including an intensive post-operative patient follow-up program designed for optimal weight loss and health results,” Dr. Hitchcock added.

Dr. Hitchcock has been involved in bariatric surgery for more than 25 years in the Kansas City area. He has performed hundreds of LAP-BAND ® System procedures since he completed the FDA-required LAP-BAND training in 2004. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and has been recognized as a Center of Excellence Surgeon by this organization. He is also a Board Certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

The NewHope Bariatrics Surgery Center offers a comprehensive program beginning with extensive education, pre-surgical consultation and financial counseling, and continuing through aftercare programs focused on long-term clinical support and access to a community of patients and health-care professionals. The entire program is designed to help people achieve their weight loss goals and improve their quality of life.

The NewHope Bariatrics of Kansas City began performing LAP-BAND ® System procedures in October 2007 and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC) and has also received provisional status as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons.
